The Director General of the Food and Agricultural Organisation (FAO) of the United Nations, Jose Graziano da Silva, arrived in Yaoundé for an official visit on September 3.
During his three-day visit, the FAO boss is expected to meet with government Ministers, sign partnership agreements and grant audiences to civil society leaders and farmer organizations in the country.
According to the Cameroonian authorities, the establishment of a liaison office will allow the country to have, treading water and more FAO experts in various fields. These will be directly mobilized to contribute to the conduct and monitoring of programs implemented with the government more effectively.
The creation of a FAO Liaison Office in Cameroon comes a little more than two months after this specialized UN agency awarded Cameroon with a recognition diploma for successfully reaching the first Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) with 12 other countries in the world before the 2015 deadline, in June 2015.
This was to reduce the proportion of people affected by hunger in the country.
