Cameroon's capital, Yaoundé, recently showed the beginnings of a 'climate' of year-end celebrations.

The Yaoundé City Council (CUY), which is the main promoter, has launched the countdown to the start of installation of decorative objects.

A few days to the holiday season, the main arteries of the city center and outlying areas are experiencing a metamorphosis constantly growing. The CUY is customary to serve, in such circumstances, to Yaoundé populations long necklaces of light strings.

The strings are also often found on monuments, in Christmas colours. Akwa Etienne, a sim card hawker, said that "we are tired of seeing the same things every year. Some children can play at home decorating architects, by dint of seeing the same things all the time. They can tell you what will be done by CUY.

To him, "the CUY should innovate by creating sets or a thrilling environment especially for children". Unfortunately, this view is shared by many. In the district of Yaoundé VII, one Carrefour Tsimi said "the fairytale season we know is getting closer. The big monument that illuminates this roundabout already boasts of long strings of bulbs and whose colors change almost every thirty seconds."

The effectiveness of this beautification project started in some major intersections. It is the same everywhere; whether at the roundabout in Bastos, Mvog-Mbi or Carrefour at Meec. Trees have been decorated with strings of Christmas lights. Other parts of the capital are in the same vein of festive changes.

Representatives of a company in contract with the City council is currently around for the realization of this development project of the city.

According to the Technical team of the CUY, who did not want to reveal much, "this year, there will be many changes. We are only at the beginning. Expect more work to be realised later."
