World Cocoa Foundation assists 50 youths

The Log-Nkoll locality of Sanaga-maritime, witnessed the handing of phytosanitary and farm products to the local youth by the World Cocoa Foundation (Wcf) equipment, at a total cost of 14 million F to 50 young growers on April 10, 2015.

"They received donations valued at 14 million F from the World Cocoa Foundation Friday at Log-Nkoll," 15 year old high school student and cacao grower David Gwet III remarked.

Trained like the other 49 by the inter-professional Council of cocoa and coffee (ICC) in the context of the "New Generation" programme, little David manages one hectare of cocoa farm. His father already old, he relies on his plantation (expandable) to pay his tuition among other things.

Guillaume Bertrand Nkeng, is also another beneficiary of this project. After three years in Douala where he was motorcycle driver, he decided to return to the village to carry out a more sustainable activity. He also started with one hectare.

"The new producers are modern, professional farmers and contractors. Every young person will benefit a companion of three years," said Omer Gatien Maledy, Executive Secretary of the ICC.

The representative of the WCF at the ceremony, the Cameroonian Hope Sona Ebai, recalled that this organization was supported financially by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation signed with the ICC, in December 2014, a memorandum of understanding in support of "New Generation".

First fruit of this agreement, a subsidy of 125 thousand U.S. dollars, about 62.5 million F (of which 14 million of the gift of Friday are from), intended to re-boost cocoa production with young people who are better trained, better framed, better equipped in this sector.
