ZTE Corporation has been awarded exclusive contracts by Vodafone-Afrimax Group for the deployment of 4G LTE networks in Cameroon and Zambia.

Vodafone-Afrimax will deploy ZTE’s 4G LTE and Evolved Packet Core (EPC) solutions covering wireless access, core networks, microwave transmission, value-added system, Business Support Systems (BSS) and Operating Support Systems (OSS) in the two countries.

The Chinese vendor will provide its core network solutions including its Enhanced Telecommunications Computing Architecture (ETCA) and the T8000 platform, in addition to its Software Defined Radio (SDR) wireless solution, to deliver 2G, 3G and 4G TD-LTE services.

Established in 2010, Netherlands-based Afrimax has built up a portfolio of 4G TD-LTE spectrum licences covering twelve countries and a population of 222 million across sub-Saharan Africa.

In November 2014, it entered into a Partner Markets Agreement with UK-based Vodafone Group, under which Vodafone Uganda was launched in February of this year, combining newly deployed 4G networks with existing 2G and 3G infrastructure.
