UIT ranks 2016: Cameroon 23rd in Africa

In its “Measuring the information society 2016” report, which analyses the development of ICT and telecoms in 175 countries worldwide, including 46 countries in Africa, the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) ranks Cameroon 23rd in the Dark Continent, and 148th at the global level (instead of 146th in 2015).

The economic engine of the CEMAC zone, who embarked on a digital economy development process, is outranked by Gabon, who gets the 12th spot at the African level in terms of ICT and telecoms development. Chad, another CEMAC country, closes this world ranking with Niger.

At the African level, Mauritius (73rd globally) remains the champion in ICT and telecoms development, followed by Seychelles, South Africa, Tunisia, Morocco, Cape Verde, Egypt, Algeria, Botswana and Ghana.

Eleven indicators help ITU assess the global level of ICT and telecoms development in the surveyed countries. These indicators measure the level of access to ICT and telecoms, their use and the ICT expertise in each country. A general ranking of best and worst students, based on an average of 10 points, is then produced by ITU
