Cameroonian Union of Breweries (UCB), brewing company founded and controlled by the Cameroonian industrialist, Joseph Kadji Defosso, has just completed a substantial increase in its share capital.
It thus rose to FCFA 2.9 to 25 billion, disclosed a legal announcement.
Although the methods and motivations of this capital increase were not revealed, it is likely that this recapitalization is foregoing new investments. It is a Cameroonian market on which UCB acts as minnows, with less than 5% of the shares, against 80% for the leader (the Société Anonyme breweries in Cameroon) with about 15% for the local subsidiary of Guinness.
A fourth operator would also come to reinforce competition in this market over the coming months. This is the Brasaf Company, founded in August 2014 by the industrialist Samuel Foyou, which already owns Fermencam, bought a distillery in 2006 from billionaire Victor Fotso.
