Thirty Cameroonian companies expected at the 14th AGOA Forum

Representatives of 30 Cameroonian companies will participate at the 14th AGOA Forum (African Growth and Opportunity Act), a US law aimed at improving trade between the United States and Africa, from August 24 to 27 in Libreville.

According to the Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines and Crafts (CCIMA) over twenty Cameroonian companies have already confirmed their participation. “But everything suggests that the 30 Cameroonian companies will be exceeded,” a source within this consular representation stated.

“We are convinced that Cameroon will be well represented at this annual forum to be chaired by the US Secretary of State, John Kerry, since we still have until next Friday to complete the recordings. In five days, a lot can happen,” says CCIMA.

In this context, an evaluation meeting is scheduled for Tuesday in Douala with the aim of preparing the Cameroonian employers to make better use of the forum in Libreville.

Established in the early 2000s, the United States and Africa partnership through the AGOA, which grants preferential rates of African exports to the US, was revised in July 2015.

One innovation is that instead of three years in the past as stipulated by the Convention, now it will take 10 years for the various parties to better establish their projects; which is a new beginning.
