The increase in electricity tariffs is less effective – Kedi

Arsel DG Arsel DG

The head of the agency for the regulation of electricity sector, has considered that it is necessary to carry out a structural adjustment of the electricity sector, according to Le Quotidien de L’Economie in its Monday, August 3, 2015 edition.

This requires recourse to local financing, for the promotion of payment counters.

Jean Pierre Kedi thinks that this proposal "will have the advantage of creating a cash flow upstream and reduce fraud. The third proposal concerns the establishment of a network of Transport Managers which will facilitate the transport of independent producers.

Another proposal made by the DG of Arsel, is the liberalization of the distribution through the multiplication of actors. This should facilitate access to electricity to more consumers according to the Director General. The rest of the proposals are the creation of a national commission of management water.

The main objective will be controlling water resources; the regular update of the energy mix through the use of all resources. And finally, the regulator of the electricity sector proposed the promotion of decentralization through rural electrification and the popularization of renewable energy.

For Jean Pierre Kedi, these proposals would be more effective than the solution envisaged by the ENEO company, for some months, for the increase in electricity tariffs in relation to the price of the predicted kilowatt (0.85 FCfa to more than 925 185 subscribers) or even the readjustment of prices to 2, 27 FCfa / kWh to 560 229 for subscribers and the increase of the fixed premium of 96 FCfa / kWh for all subscribers of the average voltage.

The Agency further stated that these measures will have "a negligible impact on the Eneo investments and they are not going to halt the continuing deterioration of the State of the public electricity network and the quality of service provided.

The DG of the ARSEL thinks that an increase in electricity tariffs will lead to "the non-consideration of audits ordered and paid for by the government."
