The Super U supermarket arrives in Cameroon

Supermarket Supermarket

Cameroonian Trade Minister Luc Magloire Mbarga Atangana, was present on June 30, 2015, in Douala, the economic capital of Cameroon, for the inauguration of the first hypermarket of the French chain Super U, launched by mercury International Group chaired by Adnan Houdrouge, also the owner of the Casino supermarket.

This hypermarket, with investment amount not disclosed, is the dedication of an ambition of the promoter of the Super U chain since 2006.

Minister Mbarga Atangana revealed that "during a previous visit to Cameroon in 2006, Mr Houdrouge had sought support from Government for the construction in Yaoundé of a more ambitious space than Casino commercial space. But, ultimately, the project was completed in Douala without mercury International Group abandoning the ambition to settle in the Cameroonian capital.

"I take note of the willingness of the Mercury International Group to build another Mall in Yaoundé," the Minister of trade announced on June 30.

Recalling a direction of the head of the Cameroonian State who recently called on Cameroonians to consume what they produce and produce what they consume, the Minister Mbarga Atangana wished that "Ngoulemakong cassava, plantain from Njombe, Yam from Mbe, Ngaoundal beef, fish of Youpé, Kribi shrimp" have "their rightful place on the shelves (of the Super U in Douala hypermarket), in the same way as imported manufactured products.

This minister suggested to the leaders of the new hypermarket to "multiply sales promotion to real discount stores, vectors of a consumer democratized society, centres of life, that I'd like to be considered as places of conviviality, brewing and fraternization, within which all services would be concentrated and other services which a regular consumer may need in everyday life".
