The Swedish firm, Assa Abloy has opened a subsidiary and is set to re-market its famous Vachette brand which no longer exist in Cameroon.

This was revealed during a recent ceremony of inauguration of a showroom of the company in Douala, the economic capital.

According to William Bureau, the head of Assa Abloy for Central Africa, "the direct presence of the Swedish firm in Cameroon aims to restore the image of the Vachette brand which was tarnished by counterfeit products, which flooded the local market and came with other names.

"The problem is that the Vachette brand was no longer in the market because people began to lose confidence in it. They think Vachette is made in China; of course this is completely wrong. And we are here to really communicate on where to find the original, the real cowhide and try to eradicate counterfeit."

"That is why we are on the field, distributors go out every day to fight against this infringement and market our products," said William Bureau.
