Submarine optical fibre cable landing station inaugurated

The Minister of Posts and Tele Communications, Jean Pierre Biyiti Bi Essam has handed a Submarine Optical Fibre Cable Landing Station to the Cameroon Telecommunication, CAMTEL.

The Landing Station Christened the West Africa Cable System (WACS) is an offer made by the Ministry of Telecommunication as a response to the slow internet services offered by the two private telecommunication dealers.

Speaking during the handing over ceremony at Batoke- Limbe, Biyiti Bi Essam assured the people that government is currently seeking lasting solutions to the slow internet connection offered by the two private mobile telephone companies.

The West African Cable System is the latest technology put in place not only as a major step in the reduction of the cost of communication services but also as a way of enhancing other disciplines like telemedicine, electronic commerce, online games and distance learning due to the internet speed.

The Managing Director of the Cameroon Telecommunications CAMTEL, David Nkoto Emane after officially receiving the key of the station promised to effectively manage the facility for the benefit of Cameroonians. This West African cable system has a life span of 25years.
