Socapalm Kienké workers on strike

Since October 6, 2014, there has been no work on the plantations as well as the factory of the Cameroon Society of palm (Socapalm) located in the town of Kienké, near Kribi in the South Region -Cameroon.

Earlier that morning according to reliable sources, the workers of the agro-industrial company listed on the Douala Stock Exchange (DSX), erected barricades on the various access roads and plantations at the factory.

Reason for this second strike is the non-conformity of an agreement reached with their management in Septemeber on their salaries which was preceded by a strike on September 1, 2014.

Among the broken promises, the implementation of the new minimum wage upgraded by the Cameroon government for nearly three months and the payment of bonuses expected since July 2011.

In addition to seeking compliance with the above commitments made by the managers of Socapalm, employees demanded the dismissal of Frederick Auge, the director of plantations in the Kienké unit.

Although this last request was not accepted, negotiations held on October 6, 2014 between the two parties under the supervision of local administrative authorities, helped renew the same promises, including the application of the minimum wage for employees whose pay is less than 36,270, an amount that represents the new minimum wage approved by the Cameroon government in July 2014.
