Presently, over 250 bank accounts have already been opened in the books of the Cameroonian SME Bank (BCPME), according to official sources.
This public financial institution, specialized in the financing of SMEs, officially opened its doors to the public on July 20, 2015 in Yaoundé and August 3 in Douala.
But, according to officials of the Bank with a capital of 10 billion FCFA, there is a need to wait until the end of October 2015 for BCPME to make its first financial contribution to proponents of SMEs, generally facing the difficulties of access to financing from conventional banks.
It is also to loosen the grip of the lack of financing around SMEs, presented as the engine of economic growth. The head of the Cameroonian state had, during the pastoral show in Ebolowa 2011, promised the creation of this specialized banking institution, while an agricultural Bank is still expected.
