Platinum Power ahead of its hydroelectric complex project in Makay

Platinum Power Coptic, a consortium of three consulting firms is to implement the Coptic Makay hydroelectric complex.

The consortium will be led by Oréade-Breach which lead the study of the environmental and social impact of the project.

Platinum Power, the Moroccan subsidiary of the American investment fund Brookstone Partner, launched an international tender to select which to give the contract to. The group consisting of the following consultants: French Oréade-Brescia and Cameroon’s Enda International and Fatson.

The Hydroelectric Complex in Makay, in the department of Nyong-et-Kelle (Central Regio) and whose capacity is estimated at 400 MW, will produce over 1,600 GWh / year, which would result in access to electricity for an additional population of 6 million people.

According to a recent statement from the state of Cameroon, Cameroon's electricity production capacity will reach 2000 megawatts by the end of 2016, thanks to the commissioning of several dams now nearing completion. It is hoped that they would triple by 2030.

This complex is expected to enter service in 2020 and engendered "an investment of 800 million euros, financed by a public-private partnership," said Basile Atangana Kouna, Minister of Water and Energy in a statement.
