PM launches kickoff of Cameroon Business Forum

The Prime Minister, head of Government, Philemon Yang, will talk about the business climate so far in the economic capital. Moreover since his arrival Sunday in Douala, there has been excitement in the business community.

Most members of the Government in charge of Economic Affairs responded as industry authorities and development partners were in consultation for the launched at the Sawa hotel, for the 6th edition of the Cameroon Business Forum (CBF).

This session is a public-private dialogue mechanism which works in order to support the Government in the fulfillment of its efforts to support growth through improving the business climate and the revitalization of the private sector. The sixth session of the Forum comes almost one year after the holding of the fifth seat in March 2014 in Douala.

This edition will closely monitor the implementation of reforms. The proposed theme, 'Sustaining growth through implementing effective reforms', fits in a new approach leaned on the concept of economic governance, which through the values it conveys, appears today as a need to consolidate the achievements and establish the foundations for growth sustained.

In total, 36 recommendations, covering twelve (12) projects of reforms have been adopted during the fifth session of the forum in March 2014 in Douala.

These recommendations include 6 new and 30 renewals, which some have been the object of requalification.

Given the low level of implementation of the recommendations over the last year, it was decided to give priority to the finalization of the ongoing projects, limiting the number of new proposals for the reform.

In December 31, 2014, we know that 18 recommendations out of the 36 are either executed or being finalized with some having a rate of progress of 50.0%.

It is also a question of projecting on the near future in terms of perspective, taking into account the non - building completed or which need to be improved, and above all, to lay the foundations of the axes of intervention recommended and short term medium, taking into account priority concerns in the private sector and the constraints of available resources or feasibility.

The economic capital hosts the 6th edition of the Cameroon Business Forum in an international context marked by a marked embellished of Cameroon in the Doing Business 2015 rankings (158th in 2014 and 168 in 2013).

In the opinion of experts, if Cameroon has registered two reforms we should clarify that this progression in the ranking is more due to the change in methodology by appraisers of Doing Business.

But it should also note the low rate of implementation of reforms or even many dysfunctions in their effective implementation on the ground.

All stakeholders have interest to mobilize for the effective implementation of the reforms, in order to support growth.
