Over 500 kg of "frozen" chicken seized

A total of 40 cartons of frozen chicken which weighed 535 kg were seized by the Mobile Intervention Group 2 at the eastern entrance of Douala.

The cartons were seized yesterday, October 29, 2015, at Yassa.

In detail, 18 cartons of gizzards and 9 cartons of chicken legs weighing 15kg each and 13 cartons of chicken thighs weighing 10kg. The packaging read that the items were from Brazil. How then did this cargo get to the Cameroonian economic capital, knowing that the government has banned the import of frozen chicken parts since 2006?

According to preliminary information gathered, the load was being ferried from Kye-Ossi, a city in the Southern Region, on the border with Equatorial Guinea, by a lady who was arrested by the GMI. The goods were allegedly intended for marketing in Douala.

Initially, at 3 am, the police had been alerted by a person in good faith that the agency “Elégance du Noun” Coaster minibus had left Yaounde with banned cargos on board.

The usual device at Yassa has been mobilized, the description was given of the Coaster and by early morning, the police stopped the vehicle and took it to the Gmi # 2 base in Bonanjo. Upon arrival, the package was unveiled in the presence of Departmental Delegate of Livestock, Fisheries and Animal Industries of Wouri, Guy Iréné Mimbang and colleagues.

Following this crackdown, the delegate paid tribute to the contribution of the other between Interprofessional Poultry Farmers of Cameroon (Ipavic) for its collaboration.
