Over 100 unregistered hotels discovered in western Cameroon

Out of 287 hotels established in western Cameroon, 117 have been found to be unregistered. This was revealed in the Cameroonian government’s daily publication, pushing back the western region’s new tourism official’s swearing-in ceremony.

Besides the apparent non-observance of applicable regulations, these hotels in western Cameroon are blatant examples of unsafety and breached security standards.

Despite its immense tourism potential, Cameroon continues to suffer a housing and accommodation shortage.

For example, since the withdrawal of Hôtel Mont Fébé’s standing by the Ministry of Tourism a few years ago, the country has had only one five-star hotel (the Hilton) located in its capital.
