No sugar shortage on the market – SOSUCAM

The CEO of the Sugar Corporation of Cameroon (SOSUCAM), Louis Yinda, said that "the coverage of the needs of national markets will be optimally ensured until the end of the next campaign (June 2016).

According to him, this will be "especially during periods of Christmas and Ramadan 2015 and 2016, for strong consumption."

Speaking on Tuesday at Nkoteng, the district located a hundred kilometers from the capital, Yaoundé, to mark the launch of the 2015-2016 marketing year, he said production prospects when starting the new marketing year are excellent at this time of year-end.

Mr. Yinda affirmations come often to reassure a disturbed market due to speculation.

They also come as SOSUCAM prepares to celebrate its 50 years of existence in the country.

In early March, the company had announced investments of around FCFA 10 billion in 2015 to modernize its production equipment.

This investment, which is a comprehensive program of FCFA 110 billion for the period 2013-2017, should allow it to pass from 120,000 to 160,000 tons of sugar produced per year at its plants in Mbandjock and Nkoteng (Centre).

Somdiaa, a subsidiary of the French group, which currently has a monopoly on the local production of sugar with an estimated 300,000 tons request by the authorities, is one of the largest employers with some 7500 employees Cameroon.
