New taxi prices: Negotiations continue

The negotiations that took place between the Government and the unions of urban transport yesterday in Yaoundé will continue.

The two parties were unable to reach a consensus on the level of the possible increase in taxis fare, since the increase, July 1, 2014, of price of fuel.

The Minister Commerce Luc Magloire Mbarga Atangana listened to the unions who wished to increase tariff by 50F CFA.

Users of taxis would thus pay 250 CFA FRANCS during the day instead of 200F CFA and 300 CFA FRANCS after 22:00 instead of 250 CFA FRANCS.

"Arrangements" between taxi drivers and passengers will however remain despite the ongoing talks. Trade unions and the Government, represented by the Minister of trade and commerce, have decided to end up at a subsequent meeting to stop the main points that have made the object of a consensus.

Apart from the increase in the price of (almost acquired) taxi, unions also demanded a crackdown on illegal vehicles, the determination of all required parts and scams of the police which they fall victims daily.
