Nearly 200 000 tonnes of bananas exported by Cameroon

The plantations company, Haut Penja (PHP), Cameroon subsidiary of Fruit Company of Marseilles, remains by far the leading producer of dessert bananas in Cameroon.

According to statistics from the Cameroon Banana Association (Assobacam), on the 199 000 tonnes of bananas exported from Cameroon between January and September 2015, the only PHP displays 117 000 tonnes, about 60% of total exports.

Domestic producers, led by the Cameroon Development Corporation (CDC), company controlled by the state and claiming the status of second employer in the country, have exported just over 81 000 tonnes in the first nine months of the current year.

Highlight in statistics Assobacam this year, the disappearance of the League of plantations de Mbanga (SPM), which operated so far 800 hectares of banana plantations in the Mungo Division of the Department, for banana production, which reached 40,000 tonnes year.

Since last year, the activities of this company are stopped because of liquidity problems.
