The Cameroonian government has decided to identify all SIM cards, used within the territory, to strengthen control measures against Boko Haram.

Thus all mobile operators have until the end of August to identify and register their customers.

A Sim card though very small, but can cause harm. The reason why the Cameroonian authorities demanded an identification of all mobile phone users in the country.

In Cameroon, approximately 18 million Sim cards are in circulation within a population of about 22 million inhabitants.

A customer can purchase up to 10 SIM cards from street vendors, on presentation of an identity card, without it being registered or his number associated to the Sim; a practice that the Cameroonian government is committed to prohibit.
