MTN Cameroon to pay XAF 65 bln for 3G, 4G licence - report

MTN Cameroon will pay XAF 65 billion (USD 105 mln) for its 3G and 4G licence renewal, compared to XAF 75 billion initially sought by the government and XAF 35 billion the last time.

The licence will have a 13 year term, compared to 10 years previously. MTN had countered with a susprisingly low offer for a 3G/4G licence, when it paid XAF 40 billion (USD 70 mln) to buy Cameroon Telecommunications' Camtel Mobile subsidiary in 2000, writes the local press.

The government has not commented officially. MTN's current licence expires on 15 February. Orange is thought to have stuck with its XAF 40 billion counter-offer.
