The Minister of Trade, Luc Magloire Atangana Mbarga, visited many markets and factories to get an idea of quantities of stocks available in the company's facilities of Queen Fish, near the Sandaga market.

At the time of the visit yesterday, officials revealed that the factory had 2200 tonnes of fish stock and expected 1100 more. "This is enough to ensure supplies for its wholesale customers – a kilogram of mackerel is sold here at FCFA 850 - during periods of end year celebrations."

It was this concern that explained the descent of MINCOMMERCE in markets and factories in Douala yesterday. It was about ensuring the availability of stocks, and to raise awareness to the practice of fair prices. This was noticeable in the first stage, the Maya plant, based in the industrial area of Bonabéri.

Minister Mbarga Atangana was informed that the factory produces about 12,000 tonnes of vegetable oil per month and has a fixed price of FCFA 350 for 250g packs so that more can access the product.

Soap side, production is 250 tons / day. The MINCOMMERCE then drove to Sandaga market, where traders are committed to fight against rising prices in the festive period. "Thank you for your fight in favour of purchasing power of Cameroonians," said their host of the day.

A trader nevertheless raised the issue of police harassment, which increases expenses and profits strike. Luc Magloire Atangana Mbarga proposed a system "that works already elsewhere," which is the establishment of passes (or safe-conduct) by the regional delegation of MINCOMMERCE, supposed to allow merchants to ferry their cargo more easily.

The visit continued in other soap factories, in one of the facilities of the Congelcam importer, Mboppi market, etc.
