HIMO municipalities create 1,200 jobs in 3 years

The amount allocated to some selected municipalities by the Cameroonian Ministry of Economy to promote the implementation of development projects including the "High labour intensity" (HIMO) has created 1,200 jobs in three years since 2012.

The Ministry of Economy through these municipalities have already trained 350 youth in various jobs and created employment opportunities between 2012 and 2014, including 300 for women.

From 500 million CFA francs in 2012, it rose to 600 million CFA francs in April 2014 and to more than one billion CFA francs on November 12. This was revealed during the signing of the third phase of the agreement between the State of Cameroon and five municipalities.

It was disclosed that the growing concern of the Cameroonian government for local communities willing to implement HIMO projects was that the first encouraging results of this program should be aimed at achieving at least 20% of investment projects in the country running under HIMO.

Also the Municipality of Sangmelima in the Southern Region of the country which was among the 14 cities that have already benefited from this program has succeeded in reducing social ills such as youth idleness and banditry, leading to a successful maintenance of rural roads, construction of classrooms under the HIMO approach.'

As a result Sangmelima will receive 575 million CFA francs on a total budget of over a billion CFA francs according to the 3rd phase of the partnership between the State and municipalities.
