Guinness, Giz dig boreholes for municipalities

To overcome the shortage of drinking water in Cameroon, Diago Guinness Cameroon and Deutsche Gesllchaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (Giz) GmbH, came together "for better access to water and sanitation in rural areas."

The two development partners disbursed about FCFA 108 million to provide boreholes to some municipalities.

The project was an initiative of Diago group. The said project is part of the Development Partnership with the Private sector (Dpp) of the Giz.

The project called "Water of Life" and signed on December 4 in the capital, concerned Ayos, Bamendjou, Koutaba, and Nkong-Zem.

According to Jeanne Nji, the sustainable manager of Guinness Cameroon who handled the presentation of the project, "This partnership is intended to confirm the citizenship dimension of Diago Group and Giz concretely express their solidarity with the people of Cameroon in this critical security situation."

The pair Giz Dpp / Guinness Cameroon, we do know, is to primarily provide access to water and sanitation services in 13 locations in four towns of the regions of West and Central.

The deployment of the works involves the construction of mobilization infrastructure and distribution of drinking water adapted to each beneficiary community, improving local governance in terms of water and sanitation services, community mobilization including schools for healthier behaviors in hygiene and safety.

Guinness, it is claimed, known for its experience in drinking water supply, will assume the role of client while Giz, the other partner of the Water of Life project, will assume the prime contractor functions.

No slouch in the division of labour, according to Ms. Jeanne Nji, the Ministry of Water and Energy (Minee), who will assume the the role of technical advisor, through the departmental delegations.

The communities that also benefited from the citizen policy of Diago Guinness Cameroon and Cameroon Giz, are Abeng Nnam Lembe, Ngolebomo, Nkoloboudou and Tom in the town of Ayos, Central Region.

For the Western Region has two beneficiaries of the Water of Life project and they are Tefang and Chu, located in Bamendjou.

Also in Koutaba, localities like Nkoundja, Pondimoun, Koutie, Balefé, Nkong-Zem and Sa'akia will be flooded with drinking water thanks to Giz and Guinness Cameroon.
