Gov't to construct Song Dong power plant at 375 billion

Minister Basile Atangana Kouna and Zhang Nianmu of Hydrochina International signed a commercial contract on Monday, January 19, 2015 in Yaoundé.

The agreement was signed towards an installation of a 270 MW capacity hydroelectric power in Song Dong. This will be built on the Sanaga River in the Littoral region and will have an annual output of 1.800 Gwh.

Nearly 375 billion CFA francs is needed to implement this project. This cost will be refined during the studies of front draft detailed (DPA). Hydrochina International will commence the studies of ODA in February and will complete it in December 2015.

Government intends to seek assistance from the Chinese EXIM Bank with regard to financing. The Song Dong hydroelectric project consists of a main concrete dam, lateral dikes of equipped hydroelectric power 6 45 MW turbines, two exhaust energy of 225 kv lines, of a path from the national N ° 3, and a tank capacity of 179 million m3. The average flow of the Central is 1,864 m3/s.

The hydroelectric power of Song Dong, is an articulation of the sector Plan of development of electricity in the year 2035 (SEDP 2035). SEDP 2035 aims to satisfy the electricity needs of populations and industry in accordance with the objectives defined in the Vision 2035.

According to the ESDP 2035, peak demand of electric energy in the interconnected South (RIS) will be 4.472 MW against 1,000 by 2015. This request is mainly linked to the demographic boom and the increase in the industrial fabric of Cameroon.

On 2nd April, 2013, the Cameroonian Government signed with Hydrochina Corporation, a memorandum of understanding on the realization of the feasibility studies for the construction of the hydroelectric dam of Song Dong.

Feasibility studies were conducted between April 3 and November 30, 2013. The report of front project summary (APS) was submitted in December 2013 to the Government for validation. Throughout the year 2014, the Cameroonian authorities and Hydrochina exchanged technico-economic characteristics in relation to the Song Dong hydroelectric project.
