German cooperation finances training of 18,000 cocoa-coffee producers

The Inter-professional Council of Cocoa and Coffee (Cicc) and the National Office of Cocoa and Coffee Board (Nccb), under the aegis of the Cameroonian Ministry of Trade on the one hand, signed a financial agreement for a training programme cocoa and coffee producers with the GIZ the organization of the German cooperation, on the other hand in order to become full economic agents we learned from official sources.

This convention, of which the amount of funding has not been revealed, comes as part of a programme called 'cocoa economy and sustainable food from small farms', we learned.

The 18,000 producers will receive training over a period of 3 years. "This training will allow them to be able to manage their balance sheets, keep their records...," said Michael Ndoping, the DG of the Nccb.

According to the Minister of Trade, Luc Magloire Mbarga Atangana, this partnership between Cameroon and GIZ will not be confined to the cocoa-coffee chain, but will be extend in the second phase, to the operators of other agricultural sectors, in order to make the Cameroonian farmers true professionals.

As a reminder, this same program focuses on the sustainability of cocoa in Cameroon economy, German cooperation trained more than 32,500 producers of cocoa for the period 2009-2013.
