Gas: Special operation sells out 20 tons in Y'de

The Regional Delegation of Trade was the theatre of attraction on May 21 with households from around the town thronging in to grab a bottle.

It is a happy end. Trade friction between the Liquefied Petroleum Gas operators, TRADEX and SCTM has been laid to rest, bringing about nomalcy to the market. The two parties signed an agreement in Yaounde recently under the supervision of Trade Minister. TRADEX will now resume trade cooperation with SCTM in a bid to save households the hell of suffering from prolonged SCTM-brand gas scarcity.

On the heels of the agreement came good news for customers, with Trade Minister, Luc Magloire Mbarga Atangana organising a special sales operation of 20 tons of SCTM gas, over 1600 gas cylinder of 12.5 kg in Yaounde on May 21, 2016 for denizens and those neighbouring towns. The price tag remained at FCFA 6,500 per 12.5 kg cylinder.

The news of the operation was a welcomed relief as consumers from all around town, flooded the premises of the Regional Delegation for Trade at the Nlongkak neighbourhood to grab at least a cylinder of the special cooking product. Mme Hortense Ngongang, was among the first beneficiaries of the special sales exercise. The inhabitant of Carrière neighbourhood in Yaounde got a hint from the husband who was passing in town and saw an unprecedented crowd with lorry-filled vans of Liquefied Domestic Gas.

She had gone for two months without the special product and beamed with smiles after being served. Some people came in from as far as Nkolbisson, Ngoussou, Odza and Mendong, amongst others, just to get a bottle of domestic gas. Raissa Ahanda was about to purchase an empty bottle of gas at FCFA 35,000 when news of the special sales operation came. She left her Superette-based house to the Regional Delegation where she was committed to grasp a cylinder of gas at all costs.

The organisation was perfect and fluid, customers testified, saying the long queues was no hinderance to being served within appreciable time lapse. The Regional Deleate for Trade for the Centre Region, Alain Romauld Ombede Nama and his team was in place to oversee the operation.
