Fish Farmers to benefit from Islamic Bank funding

In order to increase production and productivity of fish in large scale as well as small holder schemes throughout Northwest, especially in Bambalang in Ngoketunjia Division, fish farmers have been assured of assistance from the Livestock and Fisheries Development Project-LIFIDEP Northwest.

This was the outcome of the 2014 third quarterly coordination meeting of the LIFIDEP that held in Ndop Central Subdivision of Ngoketunjia Division on Friday, October 17.

The Supervisory Authority of LIFIDEP, who is also the Director General of the Northwest Development Authority, MIDENO, John B. Ndeh, congratulated the Project Coordinator of LIFIDEP, Pius Mbipeh Shidiki, for ensuring that the project takes off the ground as prescribed by the Islamic Bank and the Cameroon Government that have jointly pumped in over FCFA 26 billion for the purpose.

John B Ndeh, explained that the choice of Ngoketunjia Division to host the coordination meeting was not by chance, because, the project must come to the fish farmers of Ndop, especially those of the Bamenjim Dam of Mbaw–Yakum, otherwise referred to as Bambalang Village.

“You know how much Cameroonians cherish Bambalang fish and we are here to map out strategies with all stakeholders in the fish sector for our farmers to make maximum benefit when the project goes to the implementation stage. These farmers activities will be valorised in such a way that their productivity will increase, thereby improving on their standards of living, as soon as they start large scale production,” Ndeh remarked.

Explaining the objectives of the third quarterly meeting, the Project Coordinator of LIFIDEP, Mbipeh, said it will give the opportunity for the stakeholders to discuss successes, constraints with recommendations to improve on, plan activities for the life span of the project.

The Divisional Officer for Ndop, HRH Francis Poss, thanked the sponsors and emphasised on effective realisation of the project, saying livestock and fishery farmers of Ndop will obviously realise great change in a few years to come, thanks to LIFIDEP.
