FCFA 44 bln to intensify postal network coverage

The Ministry of Post and Telecommunications has budgeted the sum of FCFA 44, 256,000,000 for 2016.

The amount was presented and defended before the Committee on Finance and Budget of the National Assembly on December 2, 2015, in Yaounde by MinetteLibom Li Likeng.

The Minister said the amount will be used to step up and improve on the national postal network in the country as well as develop and optimise telecommunication networks and ICT services.

Apart from consolidating projects undertaken in 2015, MinetteLibom stated that broadband telecommunication infrastructure will be put in place in order to improve on the quality and quantity of services especially with the upcoming female 2016 African Cup of Nations to take place in Cameroon.

She stressed that the economy will be enhanced through the development of electronic communications networks, security policy and information systems.

Acquiring a third landing point for submarine cables, construction of urban optical loops and the implementation of the National Emergency Telecommunications Network project are also hallmarks of the 2016 budget.

Mrs.Libom Li Likeng who closed the budget defence by cabinet ministers was assisted by the representative of the Vice Prime Minister, Minister Delegate at the Presidency in charge of Relations with the Assemblies, Jules DoretNdongo and the Minister Delegate to the Minister of Finance, Paul ElungChe.
