Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative on the offensive

Experts of the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative from Cameroon and the Central African Republic are meeting in Yaounde.

The five day training session is organised in partnership with the German Cooperation and Development Agency (GIZ) in Cameroon.

It is the third in the series initiated by the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative and other development partners with a similar objective of equitable distribution of natural resources.

During the one week training session, experts from the two countries will be reviewing sustainable and the state`s involvement in the exploitation of mineral resources in Africa.

The meeting will also examine the plight of local populations that depend on these resources for livelihood.

Worth noting is the fact that members of the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative drawn from the civil society in Cameroon and the Central African Republic started exchanging notes on the equitable distribution of natural resources.

By the time the training session must have ended, a good governance framework in the extractive industries sector with the view of equitably distributing natural resources will be designed.

The German Cooperation Development Agency hopes to assist CEMAC Countries live up to the expectations of the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative.
