ENEO goes below expectation

The transformation of AES-SONEL to Energy of Cameroon (ENEO) was perceived by consumers as liberation from the opacity that characterized the old electricity company.

"Unfortunately, instead of producing light, it rather produces darkness that Cameroonians are forced to enjoy," according to Le Soir newspaper on Wednesday, October 21, 2015.

The impressive equipment brought by ENEO implied that power cuts would be less. However, these devices have not brought any changes. Therefore, people are left with "destroyed equipment, spoilt foods which were kept in refrigerators and freezers, growing insecurity, non-functioning of health centers and part of the informal sector in technical unemployment".

The informal sector artisans such as tailors, hairdressers, and others are off work. Morgues and other hospital emergency services do not work if they are not powered from a generator.

"Besides biased electricity supply, invoices amounts would be fixed and customers are complaining about billing," sources informed.

The inhabitants of Pharmacam area at the entrance of the city of Yaounde have been in the dark for a week, according to the newspaper.

After a general failure observed in the city, only this sector was not restored with electricity. The requests for the agency's headquarters and Nsam of ENEO have achieved nothing so far.
