The 2014 budget for the Douala III council area came under evaluation during their council session on August 14. Going by the 2014 adopted budget of FCFA 2.45 billion, it came to light that just FCFA 937 million has been raised within January 1st and July 30th.

Another of the issues that came up was that, the collected revenue that stood at 38.2 per cent had been used for developmental projects in the council. According to the mayor of Douala III Council, Job Théophile Kwapnang, FCFA 397.6 million that represents 16.2 per cent has already been spent on urgent projects.

Since the beginning of 2014, the council has succeeded in reducing traffic jam in prominent junctions including Ndokoti, Nyalla and Elf. Part of the revenue has been used to create five Municipal Police Posts to fight against urban disorder which remains a hard nut to crack. Rehabilitation works on some major roads in the council area has been carried out. The council has also registered 147 artisans in synergy with the Ministry of Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises, Handicraft and Social Economy within the framework of competence transfer and has so far hired 300 youth for holiday job to keep the municipality clean.

During the council session, the Mayor made it public that the council has so far received FCFA 270.5 million from the State for the 2014 budgetary year and that is what permitted them to initiate 12 projects that will be completed in the days ahead.
