Domestic flights represent 3% of air traffic in Cameroon

In the first half of 2014, air traffic in Cameroon increased by 5% compared to the same period last year making 15,321 against 14,568 flights, according to the statistical analysis of the Civil Aviation Authority.

According to the analysis this traffic growth can be explained by the fact that, five new companies arrived in Cameroonian sky (Aero contractors, Afric Aviation, Equatorial Congo Airlines, West Air Benin and Gambia Bird) between June 2013 and June 2014.

Air traffic in Cameroon is largely dominated by international flights, which account for 45% of traffic. Then there are regional flights (intra CEMAC), which represent 20%, while domestic flights link only 3% of air traffic in the country.

An even more understandable situation that the national airline, CAMAIRCO, which dominates domestic routes has not really taken off in terms of performance since its March 2011 launch position.

Concerning airline companies, among the 26 serving Cameroon, Air France continues to dominate the traffic in Cameroon with 22% of flights, against 13% for CAMAIRCO.

Then comes Brussels Airlines (11%), Ethiopian Airlines (8%), and Asky Turkish Airlines (7% each), Kenya Airways (5%), Royal Air Maroc (4%) and South African Airways, Air Cote d'Ivoire and Ceiba International (3% each).

Douala Airport remains the hub of air transportation in Cameroon, with 68% of flights, against 31% for Yaounde-Nsimalen airport.
