Data Centre is a growth potential, says UPU DG

Cameroon's Data Centre has been described by visiting Director General of the Universal Postal Union, UPU, Bishar Abdirhman Hussein, as a growth potential that if well exploited can catapult the country's postal sector to emergence.

Bishar Abdirhman Hussein in Cameroon for the Ninth Ordinary Session of the Plenipotentiary Conference of the Pan-African Postal Union paid a courtesy call to the Centre on July 19, 2016, where he was impressed with the infrastructure and its services.

"I have travelled and seen data centres across the world but what is in Cameroon is awesome. The country is on the right path for digital revolution. This is a success and achievement in postal operations," he pointed out.

The 31 billion FCFA worth Data Centre of the Cameroon Postal Service, CAMPOST, constructed with funds from the Chinese government through a concessional loan from Eximbank China, is an information bank, offering a plethora of services.

It hosts servers and business applications for companies wishing to have data more secured with an extensible accommodation capacity. It also offers a call centre with latest telecommunications technology. Video conferencing is one of its highly solicited services in the form of distant communication for presentations, conference with partners, internal working meetings and trainings.

The Data Centre also interconnects websites for companies, bringing the seat of sites closer. Telephony solutions through Voice Over Internet Protocol based on standardized security of mechanized implementations with single operator, maintenance, support and one billed fixed solutions are part of the services of the centre.
