After two reports in 2014 and in May 2015, the Mékin hydroelectric dam under construction in the South of Cameroon will finally be delivered in April 2016. This was revealed during a recent visit at the project site carried out by the members of the Board of Directors of Hydro-Mékin.

The dam is now up to 70% complete. Even though the constructor of the project (China National Electric Engineering Corporation) had some misunderstandings with its subcontractor which slowed down the work, they have settled their differences and work is ongoing.

Frédéric Biya Motto, the director-general of Hydro-Mékin (the holder of the project), claimed that “the first megawatts by this dam will be available later this year, following the first impoundment of this energy infrastructure to power the eight communes of the Department of Dja and Lobo, through a plant with a walking distance of 15 megawatts and a 33 km energy evacuation line”.

As a reminder, Hydro-Mékin, the public company in charge of the construction and managing the dam is the 2nd company in the country, after Eneo, structured by the British investment Actis funds; to have the prerogatives of production, transportation, distribution, and sale of electric energy in Cameroon.
