Chamber of commerce to set up its own Arbitration Centre

Cameroon Chamber of Commerce Cameroon Chamber of Commerce

The Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Crafts of Cameroon (Cima), is preparing to put in place an Arbitration Centre for Mediation and Conciliation (CAMC) to specialize in the settlement of commercial disputes between economic operators.

This official statement by the Chamber was the main resolution taken during the 11th meeting of its Executive Board.

CAMC will function within the local arbitration, the Arbitration Centre for the Group interpatronal of Cameroun (Gicam) which has been functional for several years. It was headed by Ousmanou Angelo; a scholar specialized in Business Law, in its early years.

As the founder and President of the African Centre for Law & Development (Cadev), Ousmanou Angelo then launched the permanent Centre for arbitration and mediation (CPAM), an internal structure of the Cadev.

According to experts, arbitration is less costly, more discreet and more efficient in the settlement of commercial disputes between economic operators. From this point of view, it appears as a suitable solution in the absence of commercial courts in the country, and face judicial procedures often deemed very slow and expensive.
