As part of the emergency Project for the Fight against Flood (PULCI) in the northern part of Cameroon, the government has awarded contracts for the rehabilitation of irrigated perimeters and dikes of Maga & Logone and Mayo Vrick by two groups of Chadian companies.

According to the official statement released to this effect, these contracts were won by the Geyser SA-Sotcocog SA and SGRM-ETRA, groups for 33.3 billion FCFA and 28.8 billion FCFA respectively.

This corresponds to an overall package of 62.1 billion FCFA. These Chadian companies were preferred to Hytra SA, a Cameroonian society, and the Russian Zarubezhv Dstroy.

As a reminder, each year in the rainy season, the surrounding communities of the Logone River, in the Far North region, are exposed to flood.

Caused by water overflowing from the bed of the River, these floods are often as a cause of human and material damage, and typically devastate crops (onions, rice, and millet), thereby exposing populations to starvation.

The work entrusted to the companies referred to above should help protect flood, more than 10,000 hectares of rice fields, in which about 78 000 bags of rice will be cultivated by the expansion and modernization of rice of Yagoua Corporation (Semry).
