CAMTEL fails to secure the optical fiber

Disillusioned consumers expressed their dissatisfaction, while politics sings of the end of the installation every year. Yet it was before television cameras, pomp and pageantry that the Cameroonian government launched in 2009 at Kye-Ossi, in the southern region, a supposedly great project of 3200km fiber optic deployment in partnership with Chinese company Huawei.

The project was funded by a loan of FCFA 42.8 billion from Eximbank of China in the budget of the Cameroon Telecommunications (Camtel). It was then issued to densify the network and secure the transfers.

The second reason for the extension project is meeting the needs of broadband operators. This technology was supposed to deliver benefits to consumers of services of CAMTEL, including the reduction of communication costs. That is really not the case. It is also a response to Internet users whose rate remained low until then.
