CAMRAIL acquires five new trains

CAMRAIL, a subsidiary of Bolloré Africa Logistics and dealer of the Cameroonian railway, has just acquired five new locomotives, sources revealed.

CAMRAIL, recently received the last batch of new GPR 3 000 locomotives manufactured by the South African Grindrod.

“This latest acquisition will boost our traction and reduce the time covered by our trains,” indicated Camrail.

On July 16 in Douala, Robert Nkili, the Cameroonian Minister of Transport, announced five new locomotives in September 2015, and that "five others will be delivered in the year 2016 by the South African company, Grindrod.

In addition to these trains, the railway concessionaire also acquired equipment intended for securing rail traffic.

It consists of rails greaser car, which permits them to increase the life span of bogies (wheels) by 50%, and to limit the wear of rails, and a ultrasonic control motor, which will be used to probe the rails to detect defects and to gradually foresee their replacement, officials said.

These investments are part of endorsement N0 2 of the railway concession agreement, which provides an investment of 230 billion FCFA for the period 2009-2020.
