Bertoua: Government launches maize agropole project

The project initiated to increase on maize production in Cameroon was launched on Monday August 10th in the East regional capital Bertoua. Government, through this project, intends to step up production from the present 245 to 2442 tons yearly.

The Minister Delegate at the Ministry of Economy Planning and Regional Development, Yaouba Abdoulaye launched the project during a ceremony attended by the East regional Governor Dieudonne Ivaha Diboua.

The project coordinator, Chia Bonaventure estimates the cost of the project at CFA170 million to cover 397 hectares of land.

On the occasion, The Minister Delegate handed over seven tractors, eight irrigation pumps, fertilizers and other farm inputs as government initial assistance.

The Minister Delegate further promised assured that government will construction a 15km rural, five water points and increase access to electricity in the near future. He cautioned that this can only be possible if the farmers remain committed to the project.
