Dana Petroleum Cameroon Limited will start from the month of April 2016 to dig two exploration wells in the area named the Rio del Rey Basin.

The operation of the first oil well in the Bakassi Peninsula (Southwest), surrendered to Cameroon by Nigeria a decade ago following a decision of the International Court of Justice in The Hague, could begin in the first quarter-year reveals the National Hydrocarbons Corporation (SNH).

The first contracts have been awarded to a Scottish company belonging to the consortium Dana Petroleum limited Cameroon / Cameroon oil and gas limited / Softrock oil and gas limited.

This is the realization of a contract signed in 2012 between the SNH and the consortium, whose contractual terms provide that the company will dig two exploration wells in the area called the Rio del Rey Basin which has an area of 387.5 km2.

This pool will be work in April, a lag of four since the signing of the contract for exploration which is explained by the fact that the Scottish oil and gas operator wished to conduct further studies to define the outlines of the project before embarking on the work.

According to sources close to the case, one of the two wells could be temporarily closed while the other will be an operation.

Various studies show Bakassi, a border peninsula of the state of the Niger Delta (Nigeria) as an oil-rich area.
