Assessing the activities of the Urban Development Project

After six years of work estimated at over 42.5 billion FCfa, the Urban Development project compiled its balance sheet in Yaoundé.

The Proposed Development of Urban Areas and Water Supply (Pdue), set up since 2008, has completed numerous projects in five cities of Cameroon. This cost the sum of more than 42.54 billion FCfa of World Bank’s lending to the Cameroonian government.

Urban areas in Yaoundé, Douala, Bamenda, Mbalmayo and Maroua benefited from capacity building and support for decentralization and infrastructure work in unsafe demarcated neighborhoods. Before the project will be completed, the piloting committee met for the assessment of its 9th session under the chairmanship of the Secretary General (SG) of the Department of Housing and Urban Development (Minhdu), Ahmadou Sardaouna on Thursday, July 23 in Yaoundé.

The SG indicated that almost all activities were carried out on time. These activities included culverts, network expansion, drinking water, wells and wash houses, lighting, classrooms and community spaces.

In Phase 2, there was the process of compensating people affected by the sub projects. The release evacuation of these habitats led to the construction and rehabilitation in Yaoundé, nine kilometers of paved primary roads and 21 km of tarred secondary roads.

In the economic capital, the district town of Douala II benefited from a drainage for rainwater among other amenities. As regards to the water component, emergency work of Douala and Yaoundé are 100% complete.
