Air Algeria to launch operations in Douala, Yaounde

Air Algeria airline is set to open 10 new destinations in Africa, said the CEO of the company, Mohamed Salah Boultif, stating that Yaounde and Douala, the two largest cities of Cameroon, will be included in 2016.

Air Algeria is in to face an increasingly competitive market in the aviation sector. According to statistics from the Civil Aviation Authority (CCAA in English), air traffic increased by 2% in Cameroon in 2014. Between 2012 and 2013, it had already increased by 11%, the source said.

Moreover, despite the interest from increasingly marked airlines as well as African to European Cameroonian market leadership in this area remains the prerogative of Air France, which claims 21% share in the market in which it moves thirty airlines. Then comes Brussels Airlines (13%) and Camair Co (11%), the national civil airline.

In total, these three companies alone share 45% of the air transport market in the country, according to figures from the CCAA.
