AfDB to fund 1000 hectare plantain project in the NW

Under the project to support rural infrastructure and participatory development in the Grassfields, the Northwest region intends to develop 1,000 hectares of plantain in Widikum locality.

This will be funded by the African Development Bank (AfDB) group as was recently learned during the official launch of Phase 2 of this project, which aims to equip the Grassfields regions with rural infrastructure and agricultural projects to combat poverty.

It also includes the rehabilitation of 159 kilometers of rural roads, in order to facilitate the transportation of agricultural products from the farms to the markets.

Phase 2 of this project has a budget of 19 billion Cfa francs, including 12.7 billion Cfa francs to be mobilized by the ADB, following an agreement signed on December 16, 2013 between the ADB and the Government of Cameroon.

As a reminder, the first phase of the Grassfield project, implemented between 2005 and 2011, generated revenues of more than 5 billion Cfa francs for the benefit of the beneficiaries of the project, to rehabilitate 300 km of rural roads, and increase agricultural production marketed by up to 60%.
