The African Development Bank, ADB, through its project for the support and reinforcement of institutional capacities in the Economic Community of Central African States, CEMAC, has offered over FCFA 6 billion for developmental projects within the Strategic Plan outlined by the member states.

The announcement was made by the Minister of Economy, Planning and Regional Development, Louis Paul Motaze, at the opening of a regional workshop on the restitution and validation of studies on the CEMAC strategic plan organisedby the General Secretariat of CEMAC in support with MINEPAT and the ADB.

The plan, which has been dubbed, the Mid Term Strategic Plan, falls within the Millennium Development Objectives of the African Union and the incorporation of the Agenda 2063 into the development plans of member states.

Minister Motaze said the strategic plan serves as a guide and roadmap for the actions to be implemented by member states, short and mid-term directions and the means of evaluating performance.

“In addition, the workshop and aid given comes at a point in which Central Africa is confronted by three principal challenges which are: security, regional integration and development,” he stated.

He added that the proper respect of the strategic plan is a tool to fostering regional integration and development within the Central Africa sub region.
The heads of state and governments of the CEMAC had, in October 2007 in Brazzaville, set an agenda of achieving relative peace and prosperity, solidarity, a united economic and political atmosphere for equilibrium development where citizens can freely circulate within the sub region.

The mid-term strategic plan has been lauded by economists who say it’s a good initiative and hope for its proper implementation.
