Cameroon cocoa exports peaked at 6666 tonnes in August 2015 (first month of the new campaign), according to the last quarterly report of the National Directorate of the Bank of Central African States (Beac), on the evolution of the economic activity in Cameroon.
The same report also projected an overall drop in national production during the current campaign which was approximately 20,000 tons. This situates the 2015-2016 cocoa production in Cameroon to approximately 210 000 tonnes.
This decline, especially considered as the current campaign, is the biological rest period of cocoa which takes place every 5 years, according to experts.
According to the NCCB, this decline could be more important if the cocoa realised as part of the rejuvenation of the Orchard were not in production this year.
