55% less explosions on Eneo Cameroon’s transformers

It is no more a secret that most of the power grid structures are today obsolete and that our transformers are for the most saturated”, Eneo Cameroon, concessionaire of the public electricity service in Cameroon, declared in a communiqué.

Eneo even adds that during the first half of 2016, it registered 55% less explosions on its transformers compared to the same period in 2015. To pursue on this streak, the electricity company owned by the British investment fund Actis announces that it has just installed a new transformer of 35 MVA in Oyomabang, Yaoundé. Another two will be installed in this area by end December. Therefore, there will be an increase in the electricity supply capacity in Yaoundé in the Centre and Southern regions, in general, of about 30 MW. “The risk of power outage of 5MW during the evening peak time, expected in November and December, is cancelled”, the operator happily announced.

To strengthen this, Eneo indicates that it is imperative that massive investments be made on the power grid (transport and distribution). The public electricity service concessionaire announces that it has a program which has already been submitted to the Cameroonian government to strengthen the distribution network. As an example, with an investment of about FCfa 65 billion, Eneo reckons that it can reduce by a factor of 4 the service interruptions in Douala and Yaoundé and by 3 in other regions by 2019.
