The regional brigade of the Ministry of Commerce for the Littoral in collaboration with the unit for combating illicit trade, Gicam, has seized more than 1000 unstamped cigarette cartons in Douala.

The team had been on the ground to track down traffickers of illicit proceeds and unstamped products since last Friday.

According the daily Le Messager on Wednesday, August 5, 2015, these cigarettes had no sticker in accordance with the law of Cameroon.

On Tuesday, August 4, 2015, the joint mission for control and the Customs brigade was at Bonaberi where they seized the large consignment of over 1000 illegal cigarette cartons in the warehouse of Cameroon Tobacco Company.

The head of mission said: "It is not counterfeiting or smuggling since the warehouse is based in Cameroon. Cigarettes seized are not stamped and have no health marking," he concluded.

For officers of the brigade's control accused the company established in Cameroon of marketing unstamped cigarettes. One of the officers of the control brigade, noted: "this practice causes confusion in prices on the stalls and instead of having a single price, we are left with two different prices for the same product".

Waiting to comply with the law, some of the cartons of cigarettes were loaded into trucks and transported to the branch and the rest to the regional delegation of the trade.
