The head of a unit of the Rapid Intervention Battalion (BIR), a special force of the Cameroonian army, was killed in an ambush by gunmen suspected to be Boko Haram members on Saturday night at Limani, locality of the region of Far North of Cameroon near the border with Nigeria, we learned from military sources.
The officer was driving a patrol monitoring team aboard a vehicle when it was targeted with heavy weapons fired by fighters of the Nigerian Islamist sect in an ambushed attack that occurred around 17:00 (1600 GMT) in this locality which is part of the front line of the war led by Cameroon against the terrorist group, said the sources.
Three soldiers were also wounded in the attack.
